Americans around the country flocked to local parks and riverbanks to celebrate July 4th with spectacular fireworks displays last night after a day of patriotic parades and fun-filled picnics.
Glittering explosions erupted over the iconic skylines of New York, Washington D.C. and Boston after President Obama urged citizens, in his July 4th speech, to live up to the words of the Declaration of Independence.
In New York, fireworks lit up the Empire State Building during Macy's 37th Annual Fourth of July fireworks display. The city celebrates Spectacular Fireworks on Independence Day with an impressive light show over the Hudson River.
Meanwhile, fireworks dazzled over the U.S. Capitol, Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. The iconic Washington skyline serves as a backdrop for the U.S. national birthday celebration each year. Lucky revelers watched the awe-inspiring celebration from boats in the Potomac River.
In Boston, sparklers burst in the sky over the Hatch Shell during the finale of the Boston Pops Fourth of July Concert, where security was beefed up after the Boston Marathon Bombings in April. And in Pittsburgh and Albany, in New York State, Mother Nature added to the excitement with a light show of her own. There will be Fireworks on 4th of July, Spectacular Fireworks on Independence Day
